Habits are tricky because it can take an extended  time to accumulate  an honest  habit and far  harder and longer usually to prevent  a nasty  habit. Surprisingly some people have a blind spot to their habits which may  frustrate coworkers, relations  , and friends. I conduct an exercise where each participant has got to  text someone to ask them what one among  their bad habits is. While they're  expecting  a response, they write down five good habits like  brushing their teeth twice each day  , drinking tons  of water, and exercising. once they  receive the text some are a touch  puzzled, others laugh and say they're  unsurprised  , and a few  are so embarrassed that they're going to  not share with the remainder  of the group.

| ABCs Of Your Career Journey - H Is For Habit |
The issue is that there are many facets to an individual  but our habits tend to urge  overlooked, especially within the  work environment. the matter  is that these habits grow roots then  they become a longtime  piece of our lives. I even have  had several business leaders come to me totally baffled on what to try to to  with staff members who have some bad habits. Examples are always having to possess  the last word, tapping their pen, saying "um" or another  expression ad nauseam, interrupting, etc. Some just write it off as "that is simply  Jim or Sue" except for  others it really bothers them which successively  makes the workplace toxic.
Bad habits also rear their ugly heads in interviews.a part of  my role as a career coach is to figure  with my clients on their interview skills. I even have  had to means  to some that they play with their hair or flick it back once they  answer an issue  . I even have  had several who either look to the proper  or up when pondering the way to  answer  an issue  but that hinders good eye contact. Other bad habits are picking at their fingernails or other body parts, adjusting their clothing, slouching, and either talking an excessive amount of  or having huge pauses. In many cases, the person doesn't  know they're  even doing it because it's  a habit that they need  had for an extended  time!
When I conduct references on candidates, repeatedly  the person i'm  speaking with will discuss  behaviors and habits versus the candidate's technical skills. I even have  also had to conduct 360 assessments on employees and leaders and inevitably a nasty  habit or two are going to be  mentioned. rock bottom  line is that folks  are conscious of  your habits.
Considering we are viewed holistically (another H word) in our professionaland private  lives, it's  imperative that we realize that although habits (good or bad) may only be a bit  of who we are, they still can hurt our career not just within the  short-term but for much longer  . Consider also your personal bad habits like  eating poorly and not exercising; they will  cause you to  stay up  well leading to  you not performing your best consistently at work. Take the time to spot  those habits which will  be hurting you, write them down, then  make an idea  to correct one bad habit. It can take anywhere from 21 to 250 days to make  or change a habit so twiddling my thumbs  and obtain  support from others. Your career depends thereon  .
